2560 x 1440 from DVI to HDMI or from DVI to DisplayPort
Hello, I've just purchased a Philips 275E1S display, which is capable of a 2560 x 1440 resolution. I've connected the VGA video output from my MSI A68HM-P33 V2 (MS-7895) (P0) mainboard to the VGA input of the display and I can get up to 1920 x 1080.
Since the display has VGA, HDMI and DP inputs only, I'm wondering if I could obtain a 2560 x 1440 using either a DVI-to-HDMI or a DVI-to-DP passive adapter. I've found a old thread where someone posted a link to a and I'd like to know if someone has successfully achieved what I'm trying to do, using the pixel clock patcher for AMD/ATI or any other trick, but using only passive converters/cables. Thank you. Regards |

RE: 2560 x 1440 from DVI to HDMI or from DVI to DisplayPort
DVI to DisplayPort doesn't exist as a passive adapter, and the active ones are single-link and don't officially support higher pixel clocks, so that won't work.
DVI to HDMI is technically possible with the patcher (you might need to use the -sl option for single-link), but that's assuming the patcher works with your hardware. I know the patcher works with HD 5000-series and newer GPUs, but I don't know what APUs are supported. Why not get a cheap older video card instead? Something like the Radeon HD 7850 or GTX 750 should work without tricks. |

Hello, thank you for your reply. I'm not sure I'd like to spend over 70 euro for a graphics card on such an old system.
What happens if the patcher is not compatible? Will it mess up my system or simply will it not provide the desired resolution? |
