RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hi- I have been trying to experiment with CRU, but with no joy. I add a custom resolution, use restart exe, but nothing changes in either windows display settings, NVidia control or in games. Am I missing something blatantly obvious?

I'm using windows 10, latest update.

I had the same problem in windows 7, try to add a custom extension block.

What monitor? HDMI? DVI? DisplayPort? What GPU? What resolution did you add? What does the extension block list show?

Display port, Asus PG279Q (1440p, 165hz), Asus 1080ti, resolution I added was 2048x1152.

Sorry-

Extension Block - CEA- 861
- 6 Detailed resolutions, 3 data blocks

2048x1152 at what refresh rate? That monitor can't display lower resolutions, so you have to use GPU scaling. With GPU scaling turned on, you might have to add 2048x1152 at 60 Hz for the resolution to be available. Then all the other refresh rates at the native resolution should be available automatically.

I put 165 and 60hz. GPU scaling is turned on. Turning it off makes no seemingly no difference though- where i would expect to see the resolution drop? Also the new resolution does not show up in windows display, NVidia or actual games as a choice?

Or do you mean add the new resolution into NVidia control panel also?

That's strange. The resolution should be available in all those places. What about after a reboot? Do you have G-SYNC enabled? Does the resolution appear with G-SYNC disabled?

You can try that, but that's separate from CRU. Some games don't recognize resolutions created with the NVIDIA control panel.

Rebooting has no affect, turning off g sync didn't work either. Any ideas?

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
So, I've been using this for a while to overclock my 1080p monitors. I got a new 4k freesync monitor and it lets me extend the freesync range lower, but if I try to go higher it just wont show up as an option for me. If I extend the freesync range above its default in the freesync thing on crimson it still says 34-60(60 being the default max), even though I set it to 73 as the max in cru. Same thing when I try just a normal overclock, I add the new refresh rate just like I always have in cru, but when I restart my pc so I can select it from the refresh rate drop down box it isnt there, just the standard 60 that the monitor shipped with. Am I doing something wrong/ did cru change how it worked from 1.29 to 1.3?

The max is limited to the currently set refresh rate. It has always worked that way. FreeSync works by delaying the next refresh. It can't increase the refresh rate. You have to add the higher refresh rate if you want to extend the range.

3840x2160 requires four times more bandwidth than 1920x1080. There isn't much room to go beyond 60 Hz with a 3840x2160 monitor. I don't think AMD currently allows more than 600 MHz pixel clock even though DisplayPort 1.2 should be capable of more.
