Hi everyone,

Having a weird issue with my Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED connected to my EVGA 1080 TI FTW3

The issue I'm having is any other 16:9 resolutions outside of the two it supports(4k and 1080p) seem to move up and to left of my TV or overscanning. I'm trying to use 2560x1440 and 2688x1512 both in 60hz

I've made sure to use all the timings for the resolutions I'm trying to set but they either change nothing or causes some weird colors/flickering

Something I have noticed is switching to the PC mode in my picture settings fixes the issue. However, turning off the TV or PC, changing a picture setting causes the screen to move or overscan again. Meaning I have to switch to another mode and back to PC mode. I think what's happening here is the TV thinks it needs to be in game mode which messes with the TV overscan. PC mode seems to disable over scanning.

I have messed with the GPU scaling and display scaling options and it hasn't changed anything. Disabled HDR, enabled HDR makes no changes. Tried 30hz, tried RGB 8 and 10 bit. Tried the YUV 420 and 422. No changes

I edited the HDMI 2.1 data block (which is weird... TV only had 2.0 and so does the 1080TI) and removed ALLM which changed nothing.

Since the Fire TV OS is android I did try some ADB overscan commands but can't seem to get the exact ones to fit.

Using the Nvidia control panel resize works and doesn't change back this moved/overscanning issue. I fully believe it has something to do with the hand shake between the TV and Card with ALLM and HDMI 2.1 when it should be 2.

Anyone have any ideas?

I decided to switch to my older TCL R617 4K TV and this isn't a problem. Seems to be something on the Fire TV OS

Hello, I have a problem with custom resolution, for example when I set 1081x1080 and in games it doesn't work, there are either black bars or half of the screen is black and the other half has a small window with this resolution
. maybe someone had the same problem and will help

Your monitor doesn't support the custom resolution. Use GPU scaling.

That sounds like a TV limitation, but GPU scaling should work around that. 2560x1440 should already exist as a scaled resolution by default if 3840x2160 exists. This has nothing to do with 2.0 vs. 2.1.

Hi, I am using a Dell Latitude 5440 (support DP1.4 DP alt mode) to connect to my ASUS XG43UQ monitor (supports up to 4k 144hz) via a DockCase 8-in-1 smart dock. The dock equips with a PS186 DP to HDMI micro-chip, which supports DP1.4 input and HDMI2.0b output. I enabled the 4-lane DP alt mode in the dock configuration menu.

I set 4k refresh rate in Display ID 1.3 slots. The highest refresh rate I can get is 67.5hz. Any rate higher than that would not appear in the Win11 display drop down list. Looks to me it is somewhat related to 600MHZ pixel clock limits of the dock.
So, my question is - Is there a way that I can override this limit and force a higher refresh rate for my 5440?

Interestingly, when I connec the dock to my other Dell Latitude 5410 (supports DP1.2 alt mode), I can set refresh rate up to 75hz @4k. At this configuration, Win11 says it output @ 4k with 8bit RGB color, while my monitor tells me that it runs @ 4k with 8bit Ycbcr420. It looks to me that the PS186 in the dock converts 8bit RGB to 8bit Ycbcr420 (yes, PS186 indeed can do color space conversion).

The behavior on 5410 also leads me to think I probably can go refresh rate higher than 75hz on 5440. Because 5440 comes with DP1.4 and it has enough bandwidth to run 4k@120hz. And if PS186 can convert color space to Ycbcr420, it still has chance to output 4k@120hz on HDMI side without overkill HDMI2.0 bandwidth.

BTW, I did try 4:2:0 resolution in CRU. Doesn't work.

I just went into my registry, and the NV_Modes key now has just this: {*}SHV 99999x99999=1 in it

There is another key called "NV_Modes.bak" which has a larger list in it with resolutions divided into sections SHV "resolutions"=1, =1F, =1FFF, =3F, =3FF, =7B, =7F, =7FF, =FFF, and S "resolutions"=1, =8032

Wondering if I can just can delete all this stuff and put in the resolutions by hand, and if I need to remove the .bak file, and/or should delete the 99999x99999=1 entry.

For context, I have 3 displays hooked up; 2 of them are fixed resolutions (1920x1200 and 1920x1080) and the other one is a CRT capable of displaying resolutions up to 1600x1200 in 4:3.

It looks like at least 1 resolution that is available in my Nvidia control panel is not present in the NV_Modes.bak file, so I'm thinking maybe the 99999x99999=1 entry doesn't necessarily refer to that key for it's list. Perhaps it tells it to poll Windows Device Manager or something?

That means you used SRE at some point and deleted all the resolutions: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa...Editor-SRE

NV_Modes.bak is the default defined by the driver. 99999x99999 is a dummy resolution because NVIDIA's driver will ignore NV_Modes without at least one resolution in it, and 99999x99999 won't show up because it's higher than any resolution currently possible.

I don't know what you're trying to do, but you shouldn't need to edit the list by hand if you're using SRE unless you want to set the refresh rate bits, but that only applies to non-PnP displays.

That sounds like a graphics driver-imposed limitation because DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 should support up to 1080 MHz pixel clock at 8 bpc. If there are HDMI data blocks, delete them since they aren't needed for DisplayPort. If the range limits is included, set it to 1080 MHz. The driver might be listening to one of those.

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with DOSBox Staging (which uses SDL 2.0) where it's not properly displaying resolutions above 640x400 on my monitors unless I explicitly force them, which is a pain in DOSBox because the console is almost always a different resolution from the game you are playing, and some games switch resolutions in menus.

I thought maybe Staging was looking at the NV_modes list for resolutions, but that didn't really change anything for me.

Now I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with Standard Resolutions vs Detailed, but I'm getting a bit lost trying to figure it out. For one thing, I absolutely can get all the resolution to appear as long as I force them, it's just the switching around that seems to bork things.

I also am not using any extension blocks for anything other than my projector. For my CRT, I have 640x400 and 800x600 as detailed, and the rest as standard.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm just trying to get Blood and Quake to both run in 800x600, which should be fairly simple. DOSBox opens in 640x480 and then it jumps to 800x600 when the game launches. Staging is then downscaling the image to 544x400 and displaying it in the lower lefthand corner of a 800x600 fullscreen

I can appreciate if this is something you wouldn't know how to investigate, but I haven't had any luck from the Staging folks because it seems to work fine on their setups, so if you have any ideas (especially ones related to CRU), then I'm all ears
