RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
When I use CRU to create custom resolution to solve the intermittent signal loss problem in my setup (htpc -> avr -> tv, see long version at avsforum), my audio becomes messed up. My desktop shows only 2.0 (vs 5.1), and I seem to be not getting DTS bitstreaming anymore.

EDIT: Is the correct solution to this the following: check "Include extension block" and then importing hdmi-bitstream.dat?

CRU uses EDID overrides, so if you've already installed an EDID override with an extension block, you don't need to import anything. If you haven't installed an EDID override, you can import the hdmi-bitstream.dat for bitstreaming with most HDMI A/V receivers, or you can import the avr.inf file that you made to import the receiver's extension block, but that might include resolutions that you might not want.

Thansk for the reply! Yes I started with an EDID override installed. With that EDID override, I have audio working fine, but video timings (front porch etc) are wrong.

So I used CRU to create custom resolutions with the correct timings, but the moment I do that and restart, my audio is killed (only getting 2.0 on desktop and bitstreaming doesn't work). Would you expect this to happen, or am I doing something completely wrong?

Do you happen to have four detailed resolutions defined? I just remembered an issue with NVIDIA's driver where audio wouldn't work properly if you have four detailed resolutions.

Also keep in mind that the audio is transmitted during the blanking periods, so reducing the blanking will reduce the amount of data that can be transmitted, which might prevent certain audio formats from working.

I'm also trying to figure out what you're trying to do. The original problem seems like a signal quality issue or an issue with the receiver not handling higher pixel clocks, not an issue with incorrect timing parameters. The receiver doesn't change the timing parameters according to your EDID dumps, so what timing parameters are you using to fix the problem?

You also won't be able to separate 23/24 Hz and 29/30 Hz with CRU. I would advise importing the hdmi-bitstream.dat file to wipe out all the resolutions in the extension block. Then you can try adding 23/24 Hz and 29/30 Hz separately using the NVIDIA control panel.

Mm, yes I was trying to add 4 resolutions, 23.976, 24, 29.97, and 30.

I am setting timings I got from TV's edid, so I am not really trying to send something different. So for instance, take 23Hz. By default, I get erratic video signal drops. It happens on the desktop too, so it is not related to playing a video or running a program. But if I create a custom resolution using nVidia while specifying manual timings, then I no longer get video signal drops. It's worth nothing that this doesn't happen if computer is directly connected to the TV.

For timings, these are the values:

Active Pixels: 3840x2106
Front porch: 176x8
Sync width: 88x10
Total Pixels: 4400x2250
Polarity: Positive x Positive

Mmm, that's a bummer. I was hoping to create at least 3 resolutions, 23.976, 24 and 29.97. Through nVidia, when I create 23.976, I can no longer create one for 24. And when I create 29.97, I think that is saved for 30 directly and not 29.

When creating a custom resolution with the NVIDIA control panel, the refresh rate at the top is what it will be saved under, and the one at the bottom is the actual refresh rate, so put in 23 Hz at the top for 23.976 Hz.

You might have to wipe out the resolutions in the extension block for this to work because otherwise the driver will try to combine 23/24 Hz and 29/30 Hz. I don't remember if it does that for custom resolutions.

Yeah unfortunately, when you create a 23+23.976 custom resolution, nVidia saves this under 24, but still applies it to 23. Since it is saved under 24, nVidia doesn't let you modify 24 anymore.

Similarly, when you create a 29+29.76 custom resolution, nVidia saves this under 30, and applies it to 30. See nvidia forums

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
hey there,

i've got a question to you guys.

I want to stream and i want to know if i could buy an active DP to HDMI adapter (like the one in the description) so that i'm able to play at 120/144hz on my asus monitor without letting my capture card decreasing it to 60hz at the same time.

I made a quick picture of my setup. (click me)
My capture card is the Elgato HD60.

Hope someone helps me to understand this whole problem and if this in combination with CRU would work out the way i want to stream.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hey there Toasty,

My "Custom Resolution" button in the Nvidia control panel is greyed out, and I figure this is due to the Integrated Graphics card in my computer.

How do I use CRU or enable the customs resolution in Nvidia in this case?

Integrated graphics card is Intel® HD Graphics 4000 and my Nvidia card is GeForce GT 640M.

I need more information. I don't know what you want to do with CRU or how using an adapter would help. The monitor can't do 120/144 Hz with HDMI, and the capture box only supports 60 Hz.
