Hello ToastyX o/ ,

I have a CRT monitor that I use as my main monitor.

A Lacie Electron Blue IV

I have been using this with my Nvidia GTX 980 via the mini display port. I use a little DP to VGA converter. It has worked well without issue at 1600x1200@85Hz.

I decided to upgrade to a Radeon VII . I use it for content creation and some compute things.

My problem is that I can no longer set it to run at 1600x1200@85Hz. It is limited to 60Hz in software. My eyes really don't get on well with the 60Hz and need to get back to 85Hz. My eyesight isn't great and this 60Hz is a real squint inducer.

I have tried to edit / create an inf file that includes the resolutions and

640 x 480 @ 50 to 160 Hz
800 x 600 @ 50 to 160 Hz
1024 x 768 @ 50 to 160 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 50 to 127 Hz
1600 x 1200 @ 50 to 109 Hz
1800 x 1350 @ 50 to 98 Hz
1800 x 1440 @ 50 to 92 Hz
1856 x 1392 @ 50 to 95 Hz
1920 x 1440 @ 50 to 92 Hz
2048 x 1536 @ 50 to 86 Hz

After creating the inf file Windows refuses to install it.

Any help you can render is gratefully received

Thanks for getting back to me, I already have an active adapter. The problem was the screen was being detected before but wasn't able to show a consistant signal (Couldn't enable in NVIDIA or Windows). Using CRU forcing a res made the screen detected by Windows and NVIDIA.

You don't need to create an inf file with CRU. Just add the resolutions you need. Make sure GPU scaling is disabled in the Radeon control panel.

Hello ToastyX o/ ,

I'm new to the Radeon software but having looked through the tabs I can see the GPU Scaling is turned off.

Having looked into it a bit more I am unable to create the 1600x1200@85 in the Create Custom Resolution feature in the Radeon software.

The limiting factor seems to be the Pixel Clock. 180MHz

I have noticed that the CRU has an edit function to edit the Pixel Clock limit.

I have tried to edit this value but it doesn't seem to stick.

CRU can't edit pixel clock limits, and the patcher doesn't patch DisplayPort limits. You might be better off finding an HDMI to VGA adapter instead.

The limit seems to be taken from the monitor itself. The EPROM data on it is being read by the driver. I can see model info, serial number, and some other attributes. Why there is a 180MHz limit in there I don't know.

I may try to prevent the driver from reading the data. Cut the PIN or put something on it to prevent the data from being read. I wonder if I could spoof it by putting an EPROM inside the DP to VGA adaptor. Hmmm, that would be a fun little job.

I doubt the issue is with the display (unless you've examined the EDID - you can post a copy here of the hex or binary)?

Which DP to VGA adapter are you using? There are many that can do up to 330 or 360 MHz even if they advertise only 1920x1200 60Hz.

If you connect the adapter to a Mac and do the AGDCDiagnose command, you can find out what the max DisplayPort link rate and lanes is (info from the DPCD registers). I don't know if there's a Linux or Windows utility to get that info. 180 MHz (assuming 8 bpc) is the limit for 1 lane of HBR2 or 2 lanes of HBR. The Plugable.com USBC-VGA adapter uses 2 lanes of HBR2 which should support 360 MHz but tops out at about 330 MHz for me (product page says it supports 1920x1200@60Hz which is only 193 MHz, assuming GTF timing).

Hi, I tried the this app with my hd340 and could get the 72hz on my monitor but then i stuck at 165mhz limit. I applied the Ati/Radeon patch. It found many things to patch, ı patched them then restarted the pc and still couldnt pass the 165 mhz limit. Is there anything i am doing wrong or the this is the monitor limit? Btw im using my laptop with its hdmi output and my monitor's input is DVI-I Dual Link so im using a transmitter.

That is an interesting bit of info. The 180MHz does sound like a single DP lane.

I had a rubbish old VGA extension cable that I ripped pin 12 from. It worked to prevent the driver from detecting the monitor but didn't resolve the issue.

Here is the adaptor I'm using. It worked with this monitor on my old GTX980. The 980 had mini DisplayPorts. I had to get a little full size to mini adaptor for the Radeon VII. I wonder it that adaptor is the issue.
