Gsync (or Freesync) over HDMI on Nvidia Cards with CRU
Hi,

I wanted to start this thread to ask other forum members if there is a possibility to make Gsync (now supporting Freesync) work over HDMI (it's only supported over DisplayPort for now).

Hope some experimented CRU users could somehow make this work using Custom Resolution Utility (CRU).

Regards,

Aristides.

NVIDIA does not currently support FreeSync with HDMI.

Thanks for your reply ToastyX...i asked because searching Youtube, i came with a video explaining how to enable Freesync over HDMI using CRU (long before AMD Freesync adapted the HDMI Standard) and wonder if somehow it will apply to Nvidia.

Here is the link in any case:

RE: Gsync (or Freesync) over HDMI on Nvidia Cards with CRU
Hi ToastyX

There have been an Nvidia Driver Update 440.97 both Standard & DCH who presumly enables Gsync Compatible through the LG C9 TV with HDMI 2.1 but the same Nvidia people told that one can enable Gsync Compatible even under HDMI 2.0b with proper nVidia Driver (dunno if they refer to 440.97 or still have not release a proper one...but seems in other forums, 440.97 is for LG C9 VRR over HDMI 2.1 and only for Turing Nvidia Cards)

I own a Samsung NU8000 which is a Freesync TV as you may know, and installed the latest Nvidia Drivers i mentioned it, and still after enabling my TV Freesync option, i do not get Variable Refresh Rate, nor Windows 10 enable GSYNC option under Nvidia Control Panel.

What do you know about this? and,you think nVidia would never support Gsync over HDMI 2.0a or HDMI 2.0b?

My Video Card is a GTX 1080 Ti.

Thanks in advance for your Reply!

Regards,

Aristides S.

Variable refresh rate is an HDMI 2.1 feature that isn't present in the HDMI 2.0 standard. This is separate from HDMI FreeSync, which is AMD's own solution, although I don't know if they're compatible or not. DisplayPort FreeSync is different and uses adaptive sync, which is what NVIDIA calls G-SYNC compatible.

Thanks for your reply ToastyX,

I have found this statement on the Nvidia Website

"If you don’t own a LG C9 OLED TV, but do own a display or TV that only supports Variable Refresh Rates via HDMI, you can try enabling HDMI VRR when the aforementioned driver is released. As these displays and TVs haven’t yet been through our comprehensive validation process, we can’t guarantee VRR will work, or work without issue."

What you think of this?

Aris

Ok, i've found the why my GTX 1080 Ti wont do Gsync no matter what driver.

It appears that VRR over HDMI 2.0b or 2.1 is only for GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX 16-Series Video Cards (bump)

Now i can only thing: Could a 1080 Ti be replaced by a 2080 Ti Bios so my Computer Thinks the GTX is a RTX and therefore VRR over HDMI? Could it be possible?

By the way...Sorry for my bad English!

Thanks for your replies in advance ToastyX
