Max GPU Memory Clock on Idle Desktop on 144Hz
Hi. I have RX580 8GB and Viewsonic VX2458-c-mhd 144hz 1080p monitor. Using DP 1.2 as connection cable. As I mentioned in the thread subject my graphics card stays at the max memory clock on the desktop. This is causing more power draw and more heat for sure. I tried to change my resolution settings to LCD standart in the CRU utility and actually it worked. It fixed my max gpu memory clock problem. But when I do that there was some flickerings on the screen. It is hard to describe exactly. It was looking like some random images popping up on the screen and disappearing immediately. And this was really eye hurting. I also tried other options in the cru utulity (like LCD native, LCD reduced etc.) but none of them worked for me. I added my default values as attachment. So I mean what is causing that random image flickering? Any help would be appreciated..

Try increasing only the vertical total to 1157 (same as standard). If that doesn't work, try going a little higher, like 1160. If that doesn't work, then try another cable.

Thanks for the reply. I tried both values. Actually it helped a little but did not fix the whole flickering. By the way all of the flickering is happening at tho top of the monitor. That is odd. I will try HDMI cable tomorrow.

Tried switching to HDMI cable but that did not work. There is always small flickering at the top of the monitor when the monitor is out of the stock values. Thanks for your reply again..

What worked for me was to create a new lcd standard resolution and writing down exactly 144.000 hz. Try this.

I tried but not worked for me. Thanks for the reply buddy.
I also noticed a strange fact that if I switch the AMD Freesync on in the monitor OSD settings, the flickering is not happening anymore. But unfortunately, I don't like using AMD freesync so that I'm keeping that option off in the monitor OSD.

Any reason you dont like amd freesync? That's what it does, it fixes the flickering by maxing your screen's hz with your fps

Because freesync is causing brightness flickering in games. This issue is also a well-known issue in AMD community. Back then I was enabling freesync on monitor OSD and disabling it in the Radeon Software so this way I could use CRU utility with LCD standart options. But now I’m not using Radeon Software. Because there are too many useless(for me) utilities that I’m not using. I installed only driver by device manager.

RE: Max GPU Memory Clock on Idle Desktop on 144Hz
I have the same issue.

I made a backup first of my config. So at the CRU page, it says low vertical blanking causes this maxed out memclock. So I only changed the Vertical Blanking from 50 to 100. And it worked. Pixel clock is less than max of 600 Mhz (HDMI 2) so I feel it is fine.

1. Can anyone explain how this works?
2. Increasing the VB also increased back porch V and total V. Will this affect my monitor in any way? Like its parts, its health, gaming experience (flickering, etc)?

So you just changed your vblanking option from 50 to 100 and it worked for you right? How did you do that exactly? Did you just run the cru and changed your vblanking value or did you do anything extra? (By saying extra, I mean first selecting LCD standart and then changing the vblanking value for example)
Btw I can not explain how it worked for you. I’m not an expert, sorry.
