The driver will either use 165 MHz as the limit, in which case the patch is required, or it will use the limit defined in the monitor's extension block. If that limit is too low, then a custom extension block override will be required, or you can disable the extension block and patch the driver. You will have to try it and see what happens.

AMD rep just told me that the pixel clock limit of the R9 290x is 2560x1440 @60hz. Sorry for my ignorance, but would I need the patch for this speed, or can I just use the CRU alone? Much appreciated for the help

RE: AMD/ATI Pixel Clock Patcher
Like I said, it depends on what the monitor reports.

First, try it without the patch, and make sure the extension block is enabled.

If that doesn't work, then try importing this file using CRU: https://www.monitortests.com/hdmi.dat

If that still doesn't work, then you'll have to patch the driver and disable the extension block.

RE: AMD/ATI Pixel Clock Patcher
Hi toasty,

Thank you for all your hard work on this.

I cannot get the patcher to work. win8.1preview 7950

After patching it says signing failed. Ive tried both test mode and not test mode.
On reboot the screens will not come back on. I have to go into safe mode and run the patcher and restore previous drivers.

I have tried this on 13.10 and 13.11betav8

Try renaming or deleting the folder under %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA. Then patch the driver again.

RE: AMD/ATI Pixel Clock Patcher
Nobody has ever reported that error code. I don't know what could possibly cause that.

Try this older version that requires test mode: https://www.monitortests.com/atikmdag-patcher-1.1.2.zip

If that gives you the same error, then I don't have a solution. Something is unusual about your system.

I was successfully able to patch with 1.1.2

It did however crash my HD4000 driver, but a simple uninstall reinstall seems to have fixed that. HD4000 + AMD is bugged with windows 8.1 anyways.
