Hi I have recently got a MSI MAG 274UPF E2, it's supposed to run at 4K 160hz over HDMI 2.1 (which my laptop does have), but nvidia only shows 4K 120 support on control panel and also not sure why the color says YbCr420 I think, sorry I am a bit new to this just wanted to get 4K 160 to work , nvidia also shows HDMI-HDTV. If any one has any ideas how I can't get it to work?
Because deleting TV resolutions etc just gives me a blackscreen/no signal and the system locks up.
In only of the extension blocks it does list 4K 160hz but not sure how that can be accessed.
HDR only works on 60hz as well.

Your laptop doesn't support HDMI 2.1 FRL, so it's basically HDMI 2.0, which can only do 3840x2160 @ 120 Hz with YCbCr 4:2:0 and 8 bpc. HDR requires 10 bpc, so that would limit 3840x2160 to 60 Hz with YCbCr 4:2:2.

oh okay is this the norm ? from what i could find pretty much everywhere online its not specifically mentioned what type of port is present etc .

So HDR works for any resolution below 4k 120Hz (so 4k60,2k120 etc) , is this also the effect of bandwidth shortage then ? and would it be possible to get 160hz on any other resolution ? I mean 4K 120 is good enough yes but just curious. Thanks for the info

If it's supposed to support 48 Gbps, then there's a driver issue somewhere. I can't find specific information on this particular model, but if it has an AMD Ryzen CPU with Vega 8 GPU and switchable graphics with an NVIDIA GPU, then the Vega 8 GPU is the limiting factor because it only supports HDMI 2.0. If the laptop has a way to turn off the Vega 8 GPU and use only the NVIDIA GPU, then it might work.

Yes, HDR requires 25% more bandwidth for 10 bpc versus 8 bpc. Yes, 160 Hz is possible at lower resolutions if the monitor allows it as long as the pixel clock is no more than 600 MHz for 8 bpc/4:4:4, and 480 MHz for 10 bpc/4:4:4. 2400x1350 @ 160 Hz is possible with 8 bpc/4:4:4. YCbCr 4:2:2 would allow up to 900 MHz for 8 bpc and 720 MHz for 10 bpc if the GPU allows 4:2:2 for custom resolutions. 2560x1440 @ 160 Hz should be possible with 10 bpc/4:2:2 and HDR. Currently custom 4:2:0 resolutions are not possible.

the HDMI 2.1 connects directly to the dGPU becuase its a MUXLess laptop(so i have gsync and everything) and the Display 1.3 Block does show the 4K 160hz spec not sure how all this works
(but i also cannot switch to GPU scaling most likely because of This hybrid graphics setup maybe?)
i don't know if any laptop explicitly says HDMI 2.1 FRL so just want to see whats doable and whats not

Also i can't really edit stuff under the detailed res slot as it putting 160hz just goes red
and under Extension Slots CTA 861 i can add stuff under TV res but i cannot manually put 2560 x 1440 so not sure what to do to get 160hz under 4K

HDMI 2.1 usually means it supports FRL, but then the HDMI Forum basically said anything that supports HDMI 2.0 can be considered HDMI 2.1 because the new features are optional, so now there is confusion about what 2.1 actually means. They should have called it HDMI 3.0 because 2.1 is vastly different from 2.0. Whatever the case, the laptop is acting like it doesn't support FRL, so either it's not supposed to, or there's a driver or firmware issue preventing it from working.

Anything beyond 655.35 MHz pixel clock needs to be in a DisplayID extension block.

i was watching itsjerians video on it and im meant to cop the timings and other things from the extention blocks. can i use the timings from detailed resolutions for them?
