It’s really frustrating as the min luminance should be 0, but the monitor’s EDID is showing 3. And RTX HDR reads the EDID. |

I got here a few days ago... surely not that old or different if latest version I see is 1.5.2??I asked because 1.5.1 is over 3.5 years old and can't read all the extension blocks with NVIDIA GPUs, but I don't think that's the issue here. The GPU matters because CRU gets the extension blocks from the graphics driver, and it can only read extension blocks with AMD and NVIDIA GPUs because Intel wouldn't provide access to their SDK, so if the laptop has an Intel GPU, CRU can't read the extension blocks, which is where the 4K and HDR information would be. Further complicating this is newer HDMI displays have another way of defining extension blocks that CRU doesn't support yet, so there might be another extension block that CRU can't read, and NVIDIA's driver will ignore EDID overrides for displays with DSC if the pixel rate is beyond a certain point. Oh right... I didn't realize that the host PC hardware was important to actually read EDID correctly. I presume it's in documentation somewhere - I didn't read any docs. Probably would be a good idea for the program itself to say this to user and give them warnings/errors messages about not being able to read and requiring a NVidia GPU etc. Laptop (ACER Aspire 1) has the inbuilt Celeron N4000 CPU graphics only it seems (Intel UHD graphics it just says). I plugged into both LG 55" CX OLED and the Sony VPL-VW360ES projector and ran EDIDDump: Sony VPL-VW360ES (SNY6004) DISPLAY\BOE06BD\4&2F7DD359&0&UID265988: 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 09 E5 BD 06 00 00 00 00 01 1A 01 04 95 1F 11 78 02 24 10 97 59 54 8E 27 1E 50 54 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 3E 1C 56 A0 50 00 16 30 30 20 36 00 35 AD 10 00 00 1A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FE 00 42 4F 45 20 43 51 0A 20 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 FE 00 4E 54 31 34 30 57 48 4D 2D 4E 34 31 0A 00 22 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 DISPLAY\SNY6004\4&2F7DD359&0&UID198147: 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 4D D9 04 60 01 01 01 01 00 17 01 03 80 E0 77 78 0A 99 55 AE 51 49 B2 24 0D 50 54 21 08 00 90 40 81 80 81 40 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 02 3A 80 18 71 38 2D 40 58 2C 45 00 00 00 00 00 00 1E 0E 1F 00 80 51 00 1E 30 40 80 37 00 00 00 00 00 00 1C 00 00 00 FD 00 17 3F 0F 44 2D 00 0A 20 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 FC 00 53 4F 4E 59 20 50 4A 20 20 2A 30 34 0A 01 DD 02 03 47 B0 50 62 64 63 5D 5F 5E 10 1F 20 05 14 04 13 03 12 01 78 03 0C 00 10 00 B8 3C E0 31 FF 31 FF C8 86 01 02 03 04 01 40 19 C0 90 A0 67 D8 5D C4 01 5A 80 03 E3 05 E3 01 E2 00 FB E5 0E 66 65 61 60 E3 06 0D 01 02 3A 80 D0 72 38 2D 40 10 2C 45 80 00 00 00 00 00 1E 8C 0A D0 8A 20 E0 2D 10 10 3E 96 00 00 00 00 00 00 18 8C 0A D0 90 20 40 31 20 0C 40 55 00 00 00 00 00 00 18 00 00 C7 LG 55 CX OLED (GSMC0C8) DISPLAY\BOE06BD\4&2F7DD359&0&UID265988: 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 09 E5 BD 06 00 00 00 00 01 1A 01 04 95 1F 11 78 02 24 10 97 59 54 8E 27 1E 50 54 00 00 00 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 3E 1C 56 A0 50 00 16 30 30 20 36 00 35 AD 10 00 00 1A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 FE 00 42 4F 45 20 43 51 0A 20 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 FE 00 4E 54 31 34 30 57 48 4D 2D 4E 34 31 0A 00 22 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 DISPLAY\GSMC0C8\4&2F7DD359&0&UID198147: 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF 00 1E 6D C8 C0 01 01 01 01 01 1E 01 03 80 A0 5A 78 0A EE 91 A3 54 4C 99 26 0F 50 54 A1 08 00 31 40 45 40 61 40 71 40 81 80 D1 C0 01 01 01 01 08 E8 00 30 F2 70 5A 80 B0 58 8A 00 40 84 63 00 00 1E 6F C2 00 A0 A0 A0 55 50 30 20 35 00 40 84 63 00 00 1E 00 00 00 FD 00 18 78 1E FF 77 00 0A 20 20 20 20 20 20 00 00 00 FC 00 4C 47 20 54 56 20 53 53 43 52 32 0A 20 01 66 02 03 64 F1 5E 61 60 76 75 66 65 DB DA 10 1F 04 13 05 14 03 02 12 20 21 22 15 01 5D 5E 5F 62 63 64 3F 40 2C 09 57 07 15 07 50 57 07 01 67 04 03 6E 03 0C 00 20 00 B8 3C 24 00 80 01 02 03 04 6A D8 5D C4 01 78 80 53 02 28 78 E2 00 CF E3 05 C0 00 E3 06 0D 01 E2 0F FF EB 01 46 D0 00 48 03 76 8A 66 72 7C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 2E I presume BOE06BD in both is the laptop |

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I have been trying to use CRU to add resolutions to a 3440x1440 monitor to no avail (I cannot see the custom resolution in the Windows resolution settings). I am trying to add the resolution 2734x1824.
I have tried adding this resolution multiple times using different methods. I've added it to every single entry (Display1.3, Display2.0...) and it doesn't work. I've also added it to detailed resolutions and it doesn't work. And yes, I have tried both restarting my GPU using the given exe, and in fact I even tried restarting my computer, all to no avail. Does anyone know what the issue in my case might be? Also, I use an Intel UHD 620 for graphics. I have tried the export method already. |

I presume it's in documentation somewhere - I didn't read any docs. There are too many driver-specific issues and hardware limitations that I can't easily check for. CRU lists "Default extension block" if an extension block can't be read. This won't be an issue after the rewrite anyway. You can copy the EDID you want into a text file and import the file using CRU. The projector is DISPLAY\SNY6004\4&2F7DD359&0&UID198147. Keep in mind every dummy plug I've seen so far only really supports HDMI 2.0 TMDS even if they claim to be 4K/8K (they use YCbCr 4:2:0 for 4K 120 Hz and 30 Hz for 8K). Luckily the projector also seems to be HDMI 2.0 TMDS, so this shouldn't be an issue. I noticed there are two bytes left in the extension block for data blocks. If you plan to make any changes in the extension block, make sure there are at least two bytes left because NVIDIA's driver has a bug that will cause it to ignore the override if there are less than two bytes left. Also NVIDIA's driver currently has another bug with EDID overrides that can cause it to crash on boot sometimes if you have multiple displays connected, but it doesn't always happen so I'm not sure what the trigger is. I don't know if the dummy plug you have is writable, but if it is, you can write the EDID you want using this: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Threa...yID-Writer |

Has this always been the case (perhaps there’s an older driver that doesn’t ignore EDID override)?I don't know because I don't have the hardware to test it myself. Someone mentioned an older driver working but I haven't been able to confirm it. I first heard of the problem over a year ago, and there were some major changes to the driver after 528.49, so maybe around that version, but older drivers might not support your GPU, and Windows Update is a pain and will automatically update older drivers. |

Hi Toasty!
Thank you so much for the prompt response. I actually away from home right now so I don't have access to my monitor (it was connected to my laptop via DisplayLink dock and HDMI). With that being said, I'm currently testing just on my laptop's internal display and it doesn't seem to work either. CRU should work if the monitor is connected directly to the laptop. Laptop displays normally don't have scalers and can only display the native resolution, and Intel's driver often ignores EDID overrides for laptop displays. CRU should work for external monitors though. |

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I've done some further testing with the XG27UCS monitor (using HDMI 2.1 cable) that I thought worth reporting since my last post.
1. At 720p it seems that the lowest accepted Horizontal Blanking is 80 pixels (same as CVT-RBv2), anything lower results in blank screen. 2. Vertical Blanking must be at least 11 lines. 3. Maximum Vertical Back porch is limited to 2047 lines. 4. Although lowering the input lag might not be very significant (I can't really detect a difference) by increasing the vertical totals (QFT) at 1440p, 1080p and 720p resolutions by adding them (in addition to 4k) in the DisplayID 1.3 extension block, there is a benefit of having faster transition when changing resolutions. I'm not sure if this is something related to Windows, but switching between these four resolutions happens almost instantly more often when all four 158Hz resolutions are present in the DisplayID 1.3 extension block than when it's only the 4k resolution. I'm not sure if those resolutions with their increased vertical totals are actually used, it could be that the 4k 158Hz resolution values are used for everything else, but it seems there is some benefit of having them added. Edited with some further testing. |

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hi all!
I'm sorry if that question has been already resolved, but I've searched it through several sites and couldn't find a solution. I own a Samsung S95C from last November and recently a new gaming pc with a RTX 4070 Super. TV and PC works correctly but I have two problems with resolutions: 1) nVidia settings panel, doesn't allow me to set a custom resolution (it's grayed out). I have tried different things and none of them works. Thats the reason I ended up here, trying to use CRU to get custom resolution for my TV. Reading the forum, I think that's because it's using DSC over HDMI 2.1 and DSC automatically disable custom resolution on nVidia panel? 2) If I want to output 1440p resolution, I can do it, but only at 100, 120 or 144 Hz on nVidia panel. It doesnt offer me and 60 Hz option, with has no sense as I can set 1080p@60 or 2160p@60 with no problem, but for some reason, no option to 60 Hz at 1440p. The TV works perfectly at 1440p@60, as I tried with PS5 or Xbox and works fine. I opened CRU and tried to add the custom resolution I want (1440p@60). After restart several times app and computer, it doesn't matter, on nVidia panel I can't find that new resolution. I'm using Windows 11 by the way. In Windows, even if I don't use CRU, I could setup 1440p@60, but it's not real, Windows use 3840x2160 and downscale to 1440p. The reason to try to use 1440p@60 (or 2160p@60) and not 144 Hz (the max of the panel and the apparently better option) its because OLED panels at more than 60 hz on several games, flicker a lot (for example Alan Wake 2). Please, it's giving me mad that a simple thing as select a basic 'native' resolution as 1440p@60 hz its no possible to do in windows, in nvidia app or in CRU. ¿Someone know what I'm doing wrong or it's this a bug with nvidia drivers or? I really don't know where to report that or how to fix it. Maybe another S95B, S95C or S95D user here with same issue? Thanks a lot in advance! |
