3D Vision mushroom trip (fading in and out)
I use an Asus ROG Strix XG17AHP for 3D vision when on the road. Normally, I use an Asus PG278QR and have great success with that.
Natively, 3D vision works with the ROG Strix XG17AHP, but it comes in and out in "waves". Crystal clear, then it slowly inverts and then returns again on a cycle. When I load an EDID from an old 3D vision monitor I had (laptop - built in), the ROG Strix XG17AHP works fine (if you physically tilt it a little less than 90 degrees to improve the brightness). I use a USB-C to USB-C connection for that monitor (usb 3.1 gen 2/thunderbolt combo port) Does anyone know what causes the 3D vision to come in and out in waves like this if the EDID from the other panel I had is not loaded to trick it? I am experiencing the same wave effect on an ASUS VG248QG. That is connected with a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort (8k). It should work natively... but doesn't. Comes in waves. I have connected an Asus PG278QR monitor with the same setup (but a 16k cable) and it worked perfectly without any tweaking at all. Sadly, I can't buy a 16k cable where I am right now to test that. I have a 16k USB-C to DisplayPort cable coming to see if that connects to the ASUS VG248QG for 3D vision, but not sure if it will resolve the issue as I've never used that before. Very odd issues with my displays. My native panel in my laptop is a 120hz QHD 2560x1440 (TN) - AUO B173QTN01.4 Wish I could throw 3D vision against the wall, but I use it for work and don't have another option which is affordable! What an excellent wealth of knowledge on this board. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and had a fix for it? Cheers, Greg |

RE: 3D Vision mushroom trip (fading in and out)
Sounds like a timing problem where the glasses are not synchronized with the monitor. Do you have the external 3D Vision emitter? The laptop might have its own emitter, so it wouldn't need the external emitter.

My current laptop does not natively support 3D vision, so I use an external monitor for 3D vision now. My old laptop had it built in. I pulled the EDID from that panel. With the current laptop, I have successfully used an Asus PG278QR monitor without issues (DisplayPort mini on laptop to DP regular size for the monitor - cable says 16k) The ASUS VG248QG is supposed to also work, but I get those waves. Can't figure out why. I have a different cable (8k) but otherwise mini DP to DP. The smaller Asus XG17AHP also shows waves and general confusion until I load the EDID from my old laptop panel and then it's good to go. Problem is, loading an EDID is a real hassle, as it causes many black screen events on my laptop until I restart it enough times and then it works. Odd problem. Not sure why it is not stable. I connect to the Asus XG17AHP with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Seems to work fine. I've ordered a USB-C to DP cable for the ASUS VG248QG, as it says it is 16k. I don't have high hopes though. Cables are tough to come by where I am and I can't get a DP mini to DP 16k cable. The main goal is to get the ASUS VG248QG working. It should... but for some reason, I'm getting these waves and inconsistent stereo. It's getting harder and harder to get 3D vision to work! Thanks for the idea. I'll try and smash some rocks together and see if I can get it working that route. |

RE: 3D Vision mushroom trip (fading in and out)
I explained the EDID issue in your other post. I don't see any reference to the VG248QG supporting 3D Vision, only the VG248QE. The VG248QE only supported 3D Vision up to 120 Hz.
I have the DisplayPort EDID for the VG248QE: ACI24A4-DP.bin (Size: 256 bytes / Downloads: 9) |
