"OFFSET" indicates a communication problem, but I don't see why it would stop working if it worked before. Try unplugging the monitor's power for a minute to reset it. LightBoost is part of 3D Vision, which only works at 120/110/100 Hz. There's no way to make the monitor strobe at 144 Hz.

Boring long story follows but hey it's a stormy weekend:

I also believe the original 3d vision which was 3d without strobing (see the Samsung 2233rz 3d mode thread) worked at 120hz also, with a different vertical total. 3D vision 2 also came out before there were any 144hz monitors on the market; most of the original 3d vision 2 monitors only ran up to 120hz refresh rate (ex: Benq XL2411T, XL2420T, XL2720T, VG278H with integrated emitter) even though the some of the same panels were later put in 144hz monitors when they found the panels could be pushed higher (with gamma degradation and some image quality loss). I believe the VG278HE 144hz CMI part used the same physical panel as the VG278H 120hz, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Strobing doesn't work at 144hz for the same reason that ULMB doesn't work at 144hz...the refresh rate's persistence times are so much lower than the physical panel pixel transition times (which are already being pushed to the limits of TN panel tech) that "Strobe Crosstalk" covers literally half the screen at 144hz. I've tried benq blur reduction at 144hz and believe me, it's not pretty, so I always use a lower refresh rate. Lightboost mode Crosstalk is mitigated at 120hz due to something called "Accelerated scanout." which is impossible to use at 144hz. Users of Benq blur reduction exploited a firmware bug (to allow the same thing Lightboost mode did internally) to allow this with their own monitors (Benq admitted to me in email that our vertical total tweaks we used were actually bugs in the firmware).

Eizo's FS2735 is going to be the first monitor besides the older Benq Z series monitors (ignoring CRT's of course) to allow strobing at 144hz. Crosstalk results are going to be very interesting, however...

Thanks for the details, after all it seems the input lag isnt very significant.
Its more likely to be the 24 added frames of 144hz that looks more reactive, but lighboost is definitely smoother during twitch aim movements especially with vsync on.
And the colors look decent by lowering the gamma ingame.

I know the basic purpose of G-Sync but does it also have all the effects of what the lightboost software does?

No, G-SYNC is like variable vsync. It can't be used together with backlight strobing because the variable refresh rate would affect the brightness.

Ok, so it's one or the other. How better is ULMB compared to LB? And which situations would you use GSYNC over ULMB and vice versa?

G-SYNC is better for low frame rates. ULMB is better if you can maintain a high enough frame rate to match the refresh rate. ULMB on G-SYNC monitors should have better colors and less ghosting than LightBoost.

Hello,

i have the ASUS VG248QE, Windows 10 64Bit and all latest Drivers!

i started the strobelight-setup and installed 120 & 121 frequency.
i put the strobelight exe into my startup folder.
after restarting my pc, the strobelight was started in the taskbar and turned on....
but in my monitor menu the Nvidia Lightboost is not available (grey).
in my pc system settings are only the standard freq's..... so i think that strobelight-setup did not install the 121 freq....

what to do? sry for my shit english Big Grin

Intel Core i5 6600K
MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING

Found the Problem!
My Monitor was only "standard pnp" monitor.
i installed the VG248_Win8_WHQL Driver from the Monitor CD/DVD and now it works fine!

Hi,

Been using Strobelight for quite some time now, but recently every time Strobelight is enabled my screen 'ASUS VG248QE' goes to 3D enabled. If I turn Strobelight off, it's disabled. If I unplug the power to my monitor, 3D is disabled and Strobelight is I believe not functioning - I assume by unplugging the power it's no longer 'Initialized'.

Monitor - ASUS VG248QE
Graphics - AMD R9 270X

Any help would be great as this is such a shame not to be able to use this program properly.

That's how it's supposed to work. LightBoost is tied to 3D mode.
