i don't know if i did understand you correctly. if i use the hdmi datablock for my dl-link dvi monitor i am limited to the 3,72 GBit/s of sl-dvi? that would mean that at 1440p the max. refreshrate would be what? 35Hz?
I'm saying the only way to get FreeSync working with a DVI monitor is to make the driver think it's an HDMI monitor, so you will be limited to single-link data rates. HDMI can carry 2560x1440 @ 60 Hz, but the monitor won't be able to handle much higher than that with a single-link connection. To make this work with dual-link DVI, either AMD would have to update the driver to allow this with DVI, or the driver would have to be modified, which won't be easy to do.

Is this also true for DisplayPort?
My monitor is 144hz, so I'm currently either using DisplayPort or DVI-DL. Will I simply be unable to try this for the time being?
I did a small test with CRU+ Freesync and couldn't get it to work previously.

This trick only works with HDMI. It should be technically possible with DisplayPort, but the driver handles DisplayPort differently. Maybe one day I'll figure out a way to hack the driver to make this work with DisplayPort or dual-link DVI, but for now, it's not possible.

RE: CRU 1.3 preview
Terrific work and very exciting.

I wonder if it might be possible to get Freesync over VGA working on either a DLP projector or a 3LCD projector. I don't believe DLP would actually work, unless it was RGB LED based, because the physical colour wheel speed would be hard to vary on a frame by frame basis without artifacts (due to inertia, it would even likely break). However with 3LCD or LED-based DLP there's a chance, in theory that a variable refresh rate might work over VGA, perhaps.

Anyway, I'm much more interested in forcing 10-bit colour on windows desktop via VGA to my projector which handles 10-bit natively, either via its analog ports (10-bit ADC signal path confirmed in service manual and tech docs) or HDMI but of course the drasted bandwidth limit for HDMI 1.4a of 165 Mhz.

Does anyone know of a way to force a 32-bit (10 10 10 2) mode on windows 10 on NVidia GTX via VGA using CRU? I also know for a fact that the RAMDAC on my GTX 970 (and probably most other videocards) is 10-bit per colour. This would definitely help lower banding.
