Do you know if it will ever be possible to specifically choose chroma resolution? I was thinking of tricking the display by getting ride of all RGB, 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 values so it has no choice but to use 4:2:0 with the specified resolution and refresh rate. I don't think it will work though, so I've opted to try and at least get 4k@72hz to work, "which does fit within the 600.00MHz constraint", but all I've managed to get working is 4k@70hz RGB, verified through UFO Test.

I've uploaded different values that seem to work ok. Any idea's on how to tweak them?

I just wanted to thank the developer. I bought a Sony XBR65X850E a few days ago and was struggling to get Battlefield 1 to run 1080p at 120Hz / 120fps with HDR enabled over HDMI off of a GTX 1080. After several hours of internet sleuthing I finally discovered this utility and was able to get it working!

I thought I should register and leave a message here so it shows up on internet searches in case others with my TV are in my situation.

Hello guys, i have a problem, i have 60hz monitor, the maximum hz that my monitor support for 1920x1080 is 70hz i play CSGO so i need 4:3 black bars resolution, the problem is the next: if i use for example 1280x1024 at any refresh above 70hz i cant have black bars, i have to play stretched, its so weird, the monitor support 75 or 80hz at lower resoluitions, but seems like the GPU scalation setting dont work at any refresh above 70hz, i can have black bars at any resolution @70hz but i cant have the black bars above 70hz even if the resolution is supported by my monitor i have AMD gpu, anyone knows any fix for it? thank you

Hi there. I recently bought a new LG OLED55B7T TV. However, my old AV system cannot do 4K, so I've had to change my computer's HDMI outputs to go directly to the TV (Windows 10, Nvidia GTX 1080Ti). The problem is (and after hours with LG support), they have told me the TV cannot pass-through 5.1 and thus on the computer it would only show as 2.0. This was quite the let down.

I stumbled upon the CRU tool and in the extension block changed it so that 5.1 should be recognised. After restarting Windows, the sound options now give 5.1. But alas, when I try to do a test, I only get sound from the left and right speakers but nothing else. So my question is, am I doing something wrong? Should this be possible? Have I perhaps missed something, or won't the Nvidia drivers work with a custom EDID?

The instructions I found elsewhere on the web are outlined below:
"On Windows the EDID data can be faked by SW - no HW box needed between your Windows HTPC and TV. Just use utility "Custom Resolution Utility" (search the web and download, it's easy to find) and create your own EDID according to your needs (create Custom extension block - add Audio formats 5.1, add Speaker setup 5.1, add HDMI support with "Support audio information" checked) and restart Windows. Then you'll be able in Windows speaker setup to choose 5.1 to be fed to your TV."

Hi mate,

What exactly did you do to achieve this. I've edited existing blocks and tried to create new ones, but I cannot for the life of me get the 5.1 options. I've followed the page 1 instructions and restart the drivers/machine multiple times. Updated Nvidia audio drivers too.

I assume the 5.1 option shows up when you "configure" your current default audio device in the Sounds windows?

Edit: Scratch that. I managed to get the options up by importing one of the pre-made files, now I've got the same issue as you. Only front left/right speakers giving sound :/

If the TV can't pass through 5.1, how do you expect 5.1 to work? The custom EDID is working or you wouldn't get the option for 5.1. The TV is receiving 5.1 but only passing through 2.0.

GPU scaling scales to the native resolution. For GPU scaling to work at 75 Hz, you need 75 Hz at the native resolution. Otherwise, it just sends the resolution to the monitor, so you'd have to use your monitor's scaling options, if it has any.

Maybe HDMI 2.1 will provide a way to make 4K @ 120 Hz work with 4:2:0. Right now there isn't even a way to define 4K @ 120 Hz at all with CRU.

Hi Toasty,

So is it as clear cut as that then? If the custom EDID enabled the setting in Windows but when testing it only plays through 2 channels, 5.1 pass through is a no go?

Even though I've only been looking for a solution for a day, for what it's worth I appreciate the mountains of time you've put into this. Takes a lot of patience, I'm sure.

It shows my TV (Samsung MU7000) DOES do 5.1 optical pass through. There's still hope I guess, but I really don't know where to go from here if the EDID allowing 5.1 down the cable.
