Shocked 2 PC streaming (avermedia w/benq 144hz) Help requested
Hello Everyone,

I have a 2 PC streaming set-up that I gave up on a while ago because I found out every time I plug in my BENQ 144hz monitor into my Avermedia Capture Card (in my second computer) and "clone"... the hz/fps always goes down to 60 hz.

Right now NVIDIA is saying 144hz on my monitor, but when I run the Blur Busters UFO test it's saying i'm running at 60hz. I have been messing around with the custom resolution utility although I admit i'm a noob with it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or just spit ball some idea's... I have done research on and off for a couple months now and i'm clearly too dumb to figure it out. Wink

I understand the capture card can only run 30 or 60 fps. I just want to be able to take advantage of the extra frames with my monitor. I don't care too much about screen tearing as it's going to most likely just be a side-effect of running higher frames and converting to less frames in the capture card. Help please.

Thanks!

Make sure you use Google chrome for testUFO.

What does the Benq OSD in system->information say the refresh rate is?

If you are using custom resolution with non default VT, please switch to default vertical total value please.

The true refresh rate should be reported in Benq OSD except in the following circumstances:

For Benq monitors with the Mstar 0x8556 scaler (8556T)
1) If the VT (Vertical total) exceeds what is specified for a known refresh rate, the Benq will fall back to 60hz backlight pulse widths. This is done for strobing and the persistence values range from 0.167ms at strobe duty 001 to 5.01 ms at strobe duty 030.

I do not know if this applies to the benq monitors without blur reduction. This applies to the Z series (But NOT the XL2730Z).

XL2430T may report correct refresh rate with VT tweak applied, however.

The OSD will report 60hz even though the refresh rate will be higher than 60hz. This is a failsafe to ensure the benq will strobe in sync with the current refresh rate

2) Some refresh rates are bugged in EDID/firmware. This may be scaler bug or firmware bug. 1152x864@100hz is reported as 75hz, 1280x1024@100hz is reported as 60hz, 1280x720/960@100hz reports 120hz (100hz reported as 120hz causes incorrect strobing). if you are using low resolution and 100hz refresh rate is reported as 120hz, this causes out of sync strobe signal (for blur reduction); usually this can be fixed by using VT slightly higher than default normal range for that resolution, scaler will switch to 60hz pulse widths and strobe correctly, but avoid lightboost range (1138 VT=100hz lightboost, 1143=110hz lightboost, 1149=1170=120hz lightboost).

This isn't related to your post but 1280x960@100hz can be given correct strobing by using "LCD native" detailed resolution (also applies for 1280x720) which seems to use the exact same signal as 1280x960, or use Vertical total of 988 with manual setting..

Using LCD standard will cause an "out of range" error even though the display still shows the image correctly.

Wow thanks for the response. My monitor is the XL2420G model. And yes I use Google Chrome to run the UFO tests.

Under the benq menu -> system-> information -> current resolution -> 1920x1080@144. When i do the UFo test, it still says 60fps/60hz.

Is this a windows 10 issue possibly?

I admit I didn't understand much of your awesome response. Smile

I'm not sure.
Are you using multiple input devices (monitor/projectors?).
You may have to ask ToastyX for help as I don't use Nvidia hardware. (except laptop to unlock lightboost). I think Nvidia will lock the display to 60hz if multiple displays or a clone are being used, I'm not sure.

The only things that are plugged in... my 144 gaming monitor into my second PC avermedia.

My second PC also has a monitor but it's plugged into it's own videocard so it shouldn't interfere.
