RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
No there's no crash or anything strange overnight... EDID override key in the registry is still there even when this happens. To me it looks a bug in Win 10 2004 or NVidia...
When I say "res disappeared" I mean won't available anymore for the OS, and in NVidia driver panel:
...normal behaviour with 60, 90, 120Hz res created with CRU still listed and working.
When the problem occurs instead they disappear and NVidiaCP will show just native 144Hz res, even though the registry will still have the EDID override key intact Huh
Opening CRU will show me the list of my custom res as expected (they've not been deleted), and all I have to do in this case is to use your Reset64.exe and everything will work again. It's like they get just ignored for some reason...

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I'm not alone, at least another user reported the same problem with CRU + NVidia 452.06+

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Rolled back to 451.77 SD (WHQL) and I can confirm that tonight with usual Sleep+Hibernation it DID NOT HAPPEN: all custom screen res created with CRU on resume were still active and working.

EDIT: Damn it! It happened again even with 451.77 Sad Could it be a Windows 10 2004 bug at this point...?
EDID override still there:

but screen res disappeared again for video driver:

Wait, if it's listed in the Windows display settings but not the NVIDIA control panel then it's definitely an NVIDIA driver bug. I've seen a similar NVIDIA driver bug under different circumstances. The bug triggers when there's a hardware scan. See if you can get the bug to trigger after restarting the graphics driver by using Device Manager (right-click on anything and choose "Scan for hardware changes").

To work around the bug, try adding an CEA-861 extension block. You don't have to put anything in it. If that doesn't work, do you have GeForce Experience installed? Try uninstalling it. I remember GeForce Experience would trigger a hardware scan when it starts. Samsung Magician is another program that triggers a hardware scan.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Thank you for support...
Tried as you suggested to trigger the bug but nothing wrong happens rescanning for hw changes and screen res are still listed under NCP.
Yes I use GeForce Experience... next thing I'll try is to remove it.

Added (empty) extension block:

...let's see if this helps Sad

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Found how to trigger the bug: just closing laptop cover (enables sleep mode).
Manual Sleep or Hibernation do work fine, but when I use the laptop lid it triggers the bug on resume re-opening the laptop!
So at this point I tried without GeForce Experience, and was still reproducible Sad

Must be an NVidia driver bug or Windows 10 2004 (19041.508), at this point.
Rolled back to 451.77 DS but still happens...

EDIT: still reproducible even with 451.48...

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Another strange thing I noticed: when I use Reset64.exe to restore EDID override custom res (after closing/reopening the laptop lid)... then Brightness control stops working 'till I reboot Sad
[Image: image.png]

FINAL WORKAROUND (ATM)

When they disappeared, I just ignored CRU or Reset64.exe and just re-created those custom resolutions under NVidia Control Panel directly.
They work stable, even after laptop lid close/re-open and also Brightness change always work, so the problem is "solved" in practical even though doubts and bizarre behavior of NVCP+CRU+Windows on lid close/reopen still remained... but it works fine at least and I have not to worry how I turn off my PC anymore Confused

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hi, just wanted to ask how do i go about adding a 4k 96hz refresh(for 10 bit maximum bandwidth limited monitor), i tried but the refresh rate is in red and ok button greyed out, any special instructions and are there any consequences for this such as hardware damage or instability?
thanks!

Add a DisplayID extension block and add a detailed resolutions data block in there. The risk of damage is low. Chances are the monitor will not accept 96 Hz unless you have a 4K 120 Hz monitor, or the graphics driver will reject it because of bandwidth limitations. Digital monitors usually can't be damaged by custom resolutions unless there's a design flaw.
