RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Why is it that the custom resolutions show up in the nvidia control panel and work just fine yet I only see 59 and 60Hz in the Generic PnP Monitor's refresh rate selection?

EDIT: After re-seating the DVI cable the resolutions show up properly. I'm not sure why it worked anyway though.

It's an NVIDIA driver bug:

Either uninstall "NVIDIA GeForce Experience" through the Windows control panel, or install the NVIDIA driver without GeForce Experience by using the custom install option.
Samsung Magician is also known to trigger the same problem.

Thanks ToastyX!

I uninstalled NVIDIA GeForce Experience. I hope it solves the disconnection/reconnection issue that happened after a couple of hours of the monitors in standby. I'll report back with results if anything pops up.

So, i want to render at a higher resolution than what my monitor is able to do (Samsung SMBX2235 1080p) and i don't really understand how to do it. I start CRU, it already has a detailed res defined (native one i suppose) so i add a new one. I use the auto standar LCD timing and a ****x**** res that is higher than 1920x1080 (and is 16:9). No matter what res i setup there, after restart i still can't see it / use it. What am i doing wrong?

CRU is not meant for that:

  • This program adds monitor resolutions, not scaled resolutions. Lower resolutions will be scaled up if GPU scaling is enabled, but higher resolutions won't be scaled down by the GPU. Higher resolutions will only work if the monitor can handle them.

Assuming the monitor can handle it, you'd have to patch the driver:

Even with the patch, you'll have limited success because single-link DVI and HDMI are not meant for high resolutions.

That seems like a driver bug that I can't do anything about. Does disabling the extension block make any difference?

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
Hey, I have an Acer D241H display connected via HDMI as my main monitor, which is working mostly fine. However, I recently noticed that in the Nvidia control panel's resolution settings, I can choose between two versions of 1920*1080, one under the 'Ultra HD, HD, SD' section and on under 'PC'. The PC one looks heaps better somehow, but it only has a refresh rate of 50Hz, while the other one goes up to 60Hz. I can set a custom resolution with 59Hz, but it resets to the (somewhat uglier) 60Hz one after a while.

Now, when I use your utility to disable the extension block, The 'Ultra HD' etc section disappears and a 1920*1080 @60 Hz resolution appears. But now my pc seems to think I have the display connection via DVI, so the HMDI sound doesn't work, and I use the screen's audio port to connect my speakers. Is there any way to get my audio back, other than resetting the CRU?

Have you tried setting the digital color format to "RGB" in the desktop color settings of the NVIDIA control panel?

Try importing this file in CRU and enabling the extension block: https://www.monitortests.com/hdmi-audio.dat

The screen image is very sharp (letters, images..) and I don't know how to fix it.
I was able to fit the screen into my monitor with CRU + Nvidia tools but now I can't seem to fix the resolution.
What monitor is this? You shouldn't have to adjust anything to make it fit the screen.

Thats what's happening D:
I don't know what would cause that to happen other than setting the wrong resolution.

RE: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
I have a SEIKI SE39UY04 monitor, and a AMD FirePro M8900 gpu in a Dell M6600 Workstation.

DisplayPort > HDMI

Every time I plug it in, I get 1080p/60 resolution.

I started adding custom resolutions to no avail. I then found the amd patch. That didn't help. So I created an INF file from MonInfo and imported that into CRU. Now when I plug in I get the full 3840x2160 resolution, but it seems windows is scaling up the resolution from 1920x1080 to 3840x2160. Kind of odd. I've restarted a few times and when I do that it goes back to windows outputting 1080p/60, if I unplug the monitor and plug it back in, I get the 3840x2160 upscaled from 1920x1080.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it so I can actually select 3840x2160 in the screen settings.

Also when I unplug/replug it goes into duplicating the display, even though I've had extend desktop selected.

Thanks for the help!
A

**Update - I think CCC is telling the monitor to scale it. I selected "Use centered timings" and it showed the correct size image on the monitor. However it was just a 1920x1080 image of the desktop mirrored within the 3840x2160 resolution.
