CRT: After every reboot the resolution automatically changed to 1024x768@140Hz. Bare in mind that this is with all other resolutions being deleted from the EDID. I could, however, get a consistent result using 800x600, but only at a refresh rate of 160Hz. I had to set 170Hz manually every time.

I did try manually editing the Windows registry to change the default resolution and refresh rate, but the keys were being overwritten after every reboot, even when I removed all SYSTEM permissions.
AMD's driver has a bug with Windows 8.1 where EDID overrides don't always load properly after rebooting. Restarting the driver with restart.exe will load the override properly, which shows the problem is with the driver and not the override.

I don't know why this only affects some people and not others. Do you happen to have Samsung Magician installed? If so, does removing that make any difference?

You're right and I should've known earlier. At one point I did have a task schedule for restart.exe, but I must have set it up wrong, because I don't remember it giving me good results and I removed it.

I read there is a new AMD driver coming out today. I doubt it will fix the issue but I will try it on a fresh 8.1 install and see what happens. And then I'll see if I can get restart.exe to work.

I never had Samsung Magician installed, btw. In fact I don't have anything installed besides games and drivers, Visual C++ and not much else.

Happy to report that the 15.3 beta driver seems to solve the issue. I also did a fresh Windows 8.1 install, so Idk, could be a combination of both.

Take that back. Still doesn't work. Seemed like it was working fine, but no. At least not with my CRT. Sad

So I imagine that's the case with all custom resolutions.

Ah well, I was going to switch to Nvidia anyway... this is one more reason to do it.

Hey Fellas (and ladies?)

I've been lurking on both this forum and other forums concerning my monitor and can't really get an answer, I'll keep it short.

I just bought a BenQ XL2730Z (2560x1440, 144hz, 1ms) and I have it attatched to a HD6950 2Gb via DisplayPort I have done all the instructions correctly ( to my knowledge ) but still do not see 144hz as an option. I'm using the cable that came with my monitor so it's brand new.

Tl;DR
Problem - Still can't select 144hz

1. Hooking 6950 2Gb to XL2730Z via DisplayPort
2. Cable is new
3. Latest Drivers (15.3)
4. Used Pixel Clock Patcher
5. Used CRU
6. Yes i've searched forums trying to fix this myself first.

Hi Guys,

I've just bought XL2411Z Benq monitor which I connect to my laptop, unfortunately via HDMI because I don't have any other option. As I understand CRU does not support switchable graphics which is my case (right?). Is there any option or best thing I can do to have the monitor working in 1920x1080 or at least 1366x768 with 120Hz? At the moment as you probably know I can only set 120Hz with 1024x768 resolution.
I'd be really grateful for help.

I don't think that monitor will support 1920x1080 @ 120 Hz with HDMI. With switchable graphics, you have to add custom resolutions using Intel's control panel, and it might not let you exceed the 165 MHz pixel clock limit.

I don't think the 6950 fully supports DisplayPort 1.2. The pixel clock patch is for DVI and HDMI, not DisplayPort. You shouldn't have to use CRU or do anything special to get 144 Hz working. This is something you should bring up with AMD support because 144 Hz should work automatically if the 6950 supported DisplayPort 1.2 like the specs claim.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll try custom resolution in Intel's control panel. So you're saying there is no point in patching the pixel clock either? That won't help?

Thanks Toasty for clearing some of that up. I wasn't sure where to go to look for my issue. I'll talk to AMD like you said, and share what I find out to maybe help some others out.

hey toasty is it possible to change where the resolution is scaled? for example http://i.imgur.com/OTHvh9A.png my screen is displaying on the black part, but my monitor is the whole picture, now the black part continues off again from the right and on my screen again from the left, its very hard to explain and if you know a way to change that please let me know, my monitor acts wierd when I am not fully scaled, and I'm trying to fix that.

I don't have a patch for Intel, and AMD's patch won't affect switchable graphics. You don't need it for lower resolutions like 1366x768 @ 120 Hz anyway.
